Officials with the Kentucky State Police are currently asking for the public’s assistance with an ongoing missing person investigation. Post 9 was contacted on May 12th, concerning a missing Floyd County man. The man in question is 54-year-old Gordon McKinney, of Harold. He was last seen on May 9th, in the Harold Community.

Murder investigation leads to third arrest

A third arrest has been made in connection with the March 31 shooting death of a Delbarton woman. On May 23, Brittany Garlock, of Rockhouse Creek Road in Delbarton, was arrested in Kanawha County on charges of first-degree murder and of accessory after the fact. The warrant for her arrest was executed on May 20 by Mingo County Magistrate Jim Harvey.

Ky. soldier’s remains identified, returned to the bluegrass

The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency recently that Army Cpl. Donald L. Menken, 21, of Whitesburg, killed during the Korean War, was accounted for Feb. 2, 2022. In June 1953, Menken was a member of Company K, 3rd Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division. He was reported missing in action after being wounded by artillery shell fragments on June 10 while his unit was guarding Outpost Harry, a position on the main road to Seoul in what is now the Demilitarized Zone. He was never found, nor were any remains recovered that could be identified as Menken. He was declared killed in action on June 11, 1954, and non-recoverable in January 1956.
