North County Food Bank Hosting Mobile Food Drop in Ada on Wednesday

Ada, MN — The North Country Food Bank in conjunction with the Valley Food Shelf will be hosting a series of mobile food drops this summer in Ada with the next one taking place this Wednesday, June 29th from 11am until noon at the Norman County Fairgrounds. With prices at the grocery store going up along with everything else, North Country Food Bank Executive Director Suzie Boelter says it has been creating a lot of food insecurity lately and to no surprise they are seeing attendance at these food drops steadily increasing.

Gearing Up for the 2022 Polk County Fair

Fertile, MN — The Polk County Fairboard has been busy preparing for this year’s 121st Polk County Fair, which is set to get underway next Wednesday, July 6th and runs through Sunday, July 10th. Some improvements on the grounds were recently completed as well. Polk County Fairboard President Dan Grunhovd says they completed some maintenance to the grandstands and remodeled one of the older barns to accommodate the petting zoo.

Aerial Mosquito Control Scheduled for Wednesday

Aerial mosquito control application is scheduled for Marshall County Park at Florian, and in McIntosh Wednesday, June 29th, between 7-11 PM, weather permitting. According to Rob Aslesen with Airborne Vector Control, these applications have been approved by the FAA, and the appropriate state departments. Specially trained, and licensed pilots are assisting in the control of mosquitoes in those areas. The mosquito control product is one specifically designed for use in residential areas. It is safe to use, and will not harm people, pets, or gardens. However, as an added measure of safety, you may want to remain indoors while the application is taking place.

Amateur Baseball: The Club downs Erskine behind Huberty's pitching gem

DETROIT LAKES — The Detroit Lakes Baseball Club's pitching was sharp and bats came alive during its 8-2 victory over the Erskine Comets on June 24. The Club's offense failed to score in only two innings of the eight-inning game and featured multi-hit games from Justin Hoskins, Tristen Wimmer, Zack Oistad and Blaine Henderson. Matt Huberty earned the win on the mound and gave up one earned run on three hits while striking out seven in his best pitching performance of the summer.

Polk County airboat sinks during buoy installation

An airboat owned by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office sank to the bottom of Maple Lake on June 22 during buoy installation and two sheriff’s deputies were transported to Essentia Health in Fosston for non-life threatening injuries. The other two passengers, two Polk County Highway Department personnel, were uninjured and all four passengers were wearing life jackets at the time of the incident.

Fosston, MN — The Fosston Community Library & Arts Association presents Frozen Jr with performances running this Tuesday, June 29th through Friday, July 1st at the Fosston Library & Arts Center. Crookston Volleyball Concludes Stint in Fertile-Beltrami

After a second-place finish from the 16U squad on Tuesday, June 21, Crookston’s 18U and 14U teams traveled to Fertile-Beltrami for tournaments of their own. Four players from the 16U team—Dani Kresl, Emma LaPlante, Joey Nesseth and Mackenzie Funk—played for the 18U team again on Wednesday. They matched up with Anna Funk, Emilee Tate, Libby Salentine and Brianna Wardner for a spot in the bronze bracket.

Fosston Police Remind Motorists of Construction Delays

Fosston, MN — Traffic will be picking up this weekend for the 4th of July holiday, especially in the lakes area, and the City of Fosston Police Department is encouraging drivers to slow down and pay attention. Police Chief Dustin Manecke reminds motorists that there is also a lot of road construction in the city of Fosston. If a road is closed it is closed for a reason.
