56 student-athletes from Wayne State College were named to the 2021 Northern Sun Conference Spring All-Academic Team announced Thursday afternoon by the league office in Burnsville, Minnesota. For the fourth year, the NSIC highlights the All-Academic Team members with a 3.60 grade point average or higher with the NSIC All-Academic Team of Excellence Award and 28 of the 56 All-Academic selections from Wayne State College had a 3.60 GPA or higher.

Richard A. Amerling

Richard A. Amerling, 77, of the Town of Wayne, unexpectedly passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at his home with his wife at his side. Richard was born on September 11, 1944, the son of the late Edwin and Rosemarie (nee Boegel) Amerling and grew up in the Town of Wayne. Richard graduated from Kewaskum High School in 1962, enlisted in the U.S. Army National Guard and proudly served his country for 20 years, retiring as a staff sergeant. On November 14, 1970, he was united in marriage to Sandra Hoepner at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Kewaskum. Richard was employed at John Deere as a millwright and retired after 38 years of employment. He enjoyed snowmobiling, traveling and going on train trips, farming, and spending time with his grandchildren. Richard was active in Catholic Financial Life as a social secretary/treasurer, a member of the Bintzler-Waehler American Legion #347 in Lomira, a member of the Kewaskum Sno-Chiefs, and an active member of St. Kilian Catholic Church.

Low and Slow Leads to Tragedy at STOL Drag Event

Under grumbling skies and buffeted by brisk winds, MayDay STOL Drag had promised to be a great spring-into-summer gathering for the short-takeoff-and-landing community with a running of a STOL Drag matchup. Those winds precluded the official STOL Drag contest from taking place on Friday, but a handful of competitors took advantage of the opportunity to demonstrate short takeoffs and landings that quivered to a stop, often tails up taking advantage of the headwind, in an unsanctioned practice event.

WAYNE – Over a three-day session during the NSIC Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Summit, Wayne State College returned with a second place trophy. According to a release from the league office in Burnsville, Minnesota, the University of Minnesota Duluth edged out WSC and won the NSIC SAAC Cup, presented by ISG.
