Loaded semi-auto rifle in truck brings felony weapons charge | Police reports June 20-26

Riverside police arrested a 34-year-old Munster, Indiana, man who was later charged with felony unlawful use of a weapon after police found a loaded .762-caliber semiautomatic rifle along with a drum magazine for the rifle loaded with 70 rounds and three loaded handgun magazines inside his pickup truck during a routine traffic stop on June 23 at about 3:25 p.m. on Ogden Avenue.

Chicago-based Tony’s Fresh Market will open the doors to a new location in Joliet, Ill., on June 29. The store will be located at 1801 West Jefferson St. on the site of a former Kmart and will be open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., according to the grocer’s website.

COUNTRYSIDE, Ill. (CBS) -- U.S. Rep. Sean Casten won the Democratic primary for the redrawn 6th Congressional District Tuesday evening. Casten fended off a challenge from Rep. Marie Newman – who now represents the 3rd Illinois Congressional District, but instead ran in the 6th after the 3rd was redrawn. Casten won 63 percent of the vote compared with 33 percent for Newman, and 4 percent for third candidate Charles Hughes. On June 28, 2022 at approximately 3pm a water break occurred near Joliet Street and Forest Ridge Dr. Due to the conditions of the repair, water system pressure may have dropped below 20 PSI. Under rules set forth by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, the Schererville Water Department is required to issue a precautionary boil water advisory for human and animal consumption until testing is completed and found to be free of contaminants. We anticipate receiving passing results by Saturday July 2, 2022.

Two Indiana men are accused of trafficking guns from Indianapolis to Chicago last week. Devante Brown and Corey Sartin are charged with conspiracy and willfully dealing firearms without a license. Federal prosecutors say Brown and Sartin illegally sold ten firearms, including two privately made “ghost guns,” to undercover law enforcement officers in Calumet City.

Indiana’s Arts Commission and and Small Business Development Center Team Up for Creative Business Training

Creative business training opportunities will be happening around Indiana this summer. The Indiana Arts Commission and the Indiana Small Business Development Center say the training sessions aim to improve small-business creativity in order to help them stay viable in today’s marketplace. The IAC says more than 250 entrepreneurs from around the state will assist in the Next Steps Creative Business Training Program, being held in various communities this July and August. Locally, South Shore Arts in Gary will host a program entitled “The Art of Business” at the Miller Beach Arts and Creative District on Thursday, August 18th, beginning at 9:30am at 540 South Lake Street. Frankfort Man Charged With Possessing and Transporting Child Pornography

Chicago, IL-(ENEWSPF)- A Frankfort man who allegedly possessed and transported sexually explicit images of children has been indicted on federal child pornography charges. BRANDON J. BERGTHOLD, 35, of Frankfort, Ill., is charged with possession and transportation of child pornography, according to an indictment returned Thursday in U.S. District Court in Chicago. The federal charges carry enhanced sentencing penalties, including a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in federal prison and a maximum of 40 years, due to a prior qualifying conviction involving a minor, for which Bergthold has had to register as a sex offender.

He is survived by his loving mother, Bonnie Rodgers; his two older sisters, Susan Rodgers, and Vicki Rodgers; and has joined his father, Marion Rodgers, in the next life. He is also survived by his loving and devoted wife, Ronda Rodgers; his five caring children, Teresa Boyce, Andrew Rodgers, Tiffany Sims, Timothy Rodgers, and Shyla Rodgers; and his eight grandchildren, who he shared all of his love with.
