Balko firefighter dies from injuries suffered while battling April wildfire

A volunteer firefighter who was badly burned while battling a wildfire in the Oklahoma Panhandle has died. "It is with heavy heart and many tears that we share this news," Western Oklahoma Fire Coverage, a Facebook hub, posted Sunday. "Jason Smith, the Balko firefighter, has succumbed to his injuries received from the rollover crash that he was involved in last month. Please lift his family and friends up in prayer. Balko (OK) Fire Captain Dies After Rollover

The U.S. Fire Administration issued a notification on the death of a firefighter in Oklahoma who succumbed after being injured in a crash last month. On Tuesday, April 5, 2022, Captain Jason Smith and Firefighter Tyler Morris from the Balko (OK) Fire Department were burned when their truck rolled over in a ditch. The two were operating at the scene of the Beaver River Fire in Beaver County. Both were treated in the burn unit at the University Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas.
