The US Open just destroyed an unsuspecting Seahawks fan on Twitter

A Seattle Seahawks fan learned the hard way not to mess with the US Open's Twitter account. It all started with one of the cheekiest plays you'll ever see in a professional tennis match. Nick Kyrgios was facing off against Stefanos Tsitsipas in the Wimbledon men's singles third round. At some point, Kyrgios noticed that Tsitsipas was standing a little too far back when looking to receive a serve. Being the creative player he is, Kyrgios did something unusual -- instead of a standard overhead serve, he dropped the ball, stuck his racket between his legs and hit a soft serve that forced Tsitsipas to charge forward.

Catching strays: US Open roasts Drew Lock in viral tweet

Drew Lock has some rough luck. On a Saturday in July, the former Mizzou quarterback is catching Twitter strays from an official account in another sport. The US Open did not appreciate a Seattle Seahawks fan dismissing tennis as “not a sport” in reply to a video highlight tweet from ESPN’s “SportsCenter” account. The US Open account mockingly reminded the Seahawks fan that Lock could be the starting quarterback in 2022.

US Open Twitter account hilariously snarks @seahawksfan2314’s “Not a sport” comment on tennis with shot at Drew Lock

There’s a common “don’t feed the trolls” sentiment often expressed on social media, with the argument that high-profile brands or personalities should simply not engage with little-known accounts that criticize them. Sometimes, though, a quote-tweet dunk on even “teamfanbunchanumbers” pays off. That’s what happened Saturday with the official Twitter account of the US Open tennis tournament, which chose to respond to a “Not a sport” comment from 3,000 follower-account @seahawksfan2314 in response to an ESPN tennis highlight (from Wimbledon, not the actual US Open, which starts August 29) from @SportsCenter:

He had set a commitment date for early July but has since delayed his announcement.

Seahawks fan vs. the US Open and tennis rightfully won

One of tennis’ four grand slams is happening right now, Wimbledon. A Seahawks fan thought he would be rude and comment on it and he got smacked by the US Open Twitter handle. The problem with the fan’s comment is it was just, well…dumb. ESPN had tweeted a video...
