Knoxville Motorcyclist Dies in Crash

A Saturday night accident in Polk County claimed the life of a Knoxville man, according to the Iowa State Patrol. The accident report states that 33-year-old Landon Crabtree was operating a 2002 Harley Davidson and traveling east on NW Beaver Drive. A 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Makenna Streef, 25, was traveling west on NW Beaver Drive.

Pella High Senior Wins at National Equestrian Competition

A Pella High School senior won a national championship in a horse riding competition over the weekend. Peyton Podmolik was the 1st place rider in the Ruby Rail at the Youth Equestrian Development Association National Competition this past weekend at the Tri State Expo Center in McDonald, TN. Podmolik was competing as part of the Iowa Equestrian Team and is a member of the Class of 2023 at Pella High School. The Youth Equestrian Development Association is a program that encourages development of riders’ skills, emphasizes exposure to scholarship opportunities, and encourages making connections with college programs.

Funeral Mass for Landon Mark Crabtree, age 33, of Knoxville, will take place on Thursday, June 30, at 10:30 A.M., at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Knoxville. Burial will be held at a later date at Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville. Visitation for Landon will be held on Wednesday, June 29, also at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. with his family present to greet friends and relatives. Voting Ongoing for Pella in #IowansUnite Mural Contest

Residents of Pella can vote to bring a mural to the community. Pella Fiber, Visit Pella, and the Pella Area Community and Economic Alliance are asking the community for their votes through the #IowansUnite Mural Contest hosted by Iowa Economic Development Authority and Travel Iowa. Mehlberg, Elaine

Elaine L. Mehlberg nee Ebert, age 91 of the Town of Pella, Shawano County, passed away Sunday morning June 26, 2022 at Birch Hill Health Services in Shawano. Elaine Lois Ebert was born on June 2, 1931 in the Town of Larrabee, Waupaca County as the daughter of the late William and Lulu (Schoneck) Ebert. She was baptized, attended grade school, confirmed and married at St. Martin Lutheran Church in Clintonville. Elaine graduated from Clintonville High School and in her youth enjoyed playing softball. She went on to follow her dream of becoming a nurse and graduated from Mt. Sinai Nursing School in Milwaukee. Elaine began her career in 1952 at Clintonville Hospital and was married to her sweetheart; Elroy A. Mehlberg on June 7th of that same year. The couple farmed in the Town of Pella while raising their 6 children and retired from the farm and sold it to their son Tim in 1984. Elaine was a very talented nurse throughout her career. After working for Clintonville Hospital she transferred to Shawano Medical Center in 1981 as their PM Nursing Supervisor and retired in 1996. Elaine was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church in Caroline where she volunteered often and taught Sunday School while her kids were young. She enjoyed traveling with Elroy, cooking, baking, and canning the harvest from her garden. Elaine was active in her community as well, but her main focus was always on her Lord and her family. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren; teaching them life’s lessons along the way.
