Durango implementing fire restrictions

Durango is implementing fire restrictions as the Perins Peak Fire continues to burn northwest of the city. All open fires or burning of any kind are prohibited, this does not apply to charcoal or propane grills. Fire are also prohibited.

Update: Perins Peak Fire facts and resources

The Perins Peak Fire continues to burn slowly less than two miles from Durango. Firefighters have been helped by light winds and the fire running into a previous burn scar. The weekend brings cause for worry. The National Weather Service forecasts southwest winds of up to 40 miles per hour in the area throughout the Memorial Day weekend.
