The Independence Day Parade starts at 11 a.m. in Cannon Beach, ready to kick off the July 4th holiday. The parade begins heading North on Spruce St. from the staging area between Gower and Monroe Streets. From Spruce, the parade turns east onto 3rd and them heads south on Hemlock, disbanding near the American Legion.

What’s more “all-American” than our local farmers markets? For 15 years, the Manzanita Farmers Market has been gathering our local farmers and food producers on Friday evenings to the delight of residents and visitors. Featuring local musicians and the bounty of the season, the market is a place for families and friends to meet, greet and eat – for kids to learn about where their food comes from. The market provides a colorful carnival of our local bounty – and no place for politics.

After years dominated by virtual events, Manzanita’s Hoffman Center for the Arts is creating some verse-tual entertainment for July with a town-wide poetry walk. The event will see 15 poems by local poets celebrating summer at the coast placed along nine blocks of Laneda Avenue, between the Visitor’s Center and the architecturally beautiful Columbia Bank building.

CANNON BEACH – Cannon Beach Gallery will host a summer night market from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Saturday. The open air market will feature a reception for "Beach & Bird," the gallery's newest curated exhibition, as well as live music from Adams & Costello. Local vendors will also be present, selling arts, crafts and handmade goods.

At the Planning Commission meeting on June 20th, emotional and concerned citizens asked for accountability on the proposed “hybrid Manzanita Lofts Hotel” in Manzanita. I have been following this dialogue for awhile. It centers around a 34-unit complex between Classic Street and Dorcas Lane, butted right up against the north-east end of the Manzanita Links golf course. The hybrid hotel would face the green of the golf course’s Signature Hole – #5.

MANZANITA – Hoffman Center for the Arts will present new painting and ceramic works at its July gallery exhibit, opening on Thursday at 1 p.m. The show will feature figurative paintings from artist and educator Laura Ross Paul alongside expressive bottles from ceramicist Diana Crain.
