Iowa gives $6 million for 'Field of Dreams' TV show, with filming planned in Des Moines metro

Iowa will spend $6 million to expand the "Field of Dreams" cinematic universe. Gov. Kim Reynolds announced Monday that the Iowa Economic Development Authority awarded public funds to four tourism-related projects, including the nine-figure grant to Universal Television LLC, the production arm of NBC that is making a television series based on the "Field of Dreams" movie.

Final Work getting Underway On Pedestrian Bridge In Ames

(Ames, IA) — Work will begin tonight (Monday) on the final portion of a long-awaited bridge that will benefit thousands of football fans on game days in Ames. The East Gateway Bridge over University Boulevard will allow fans to cross the roadway to Jack Trice Stadium from the parking areas east of the stadium. John Harvey with Iowa State University’s facilities management team says they will close the roadway to traffic and install a steel truss overhead connecting two towers. They will then install the bridge deck. The project costs ten-million-dollar dollars and will also benefit motorists who won’t have to stop for pedestrians crossing the road.

Creston Police Report

(Creston) The Creston Police Department arrested two people on warrants. Cassi Mae Bird, 33, of Des Moines was arrested Friday evening at 800 Laurel Street on two warrants. Bird had one warrant through Des Moines Police for Domestic Abuse Assault. That warrant had no bond until Bird has an initial appearance. The second warrant was a Parole Violation for the original charge Habitual Offender, with no bond. Bird was transported to the Adams County Jail awaiting to be extradited to Polk County Jail.

Des Moines officials developing Vision Zero plan to cut traffic deaths

A consultant solicited ideas from Des Moines City Councilmembers Monday morning for a plan that aims to reduce traffic fatalities. Sarah Abel, of Maryland-based traffic safety consultant Toole Design, has been hired to create a Vision Zero plan for Des Moines, which could overhaul the city's roads system to improve safety for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists, she said. Much of the work the council wants Abel to focus on will be to reduce speeding, which Ward 2 Councilmember Linda Westergaard and At-Large Councilmember Carl Voss said is the issue they get the most complaints about from residents.
