W’boro Family Loses Everything in Residential Fire Friday Night

A Waynesboro family sadly lost their home and all its contents after a fire broke out just before 8:00 p.m. on Friday night, June 24. Family members stated that a minor child living at the residence belonging to David “Shorty” Horner and Shonda Blalock on Mumaw Road in the Beech Creek community first smelled smoke and then observed flames in the rear of the home at approximately 8:00 p.m. on Friday. The whole family was at home when the fire broke out, but everyone was able to escape without injury. Unfortunately, the home and all the family’s belongings were a total loss with the exception of the clothes they were wearing.

Lexington Brings Home Double the Crowns

Article Submitted- Miss Lexington Lauren Dickson was crowned Miss Tennessee 2022 Saturday night at the Cannon Center for the Performing Arts in Downtown Memphis. Dickson, who works as a financial advisor, is a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Martin and is pursuing a Master of Business Administration at Union University. Dickson said she was excited to be able to reach more people with her social impact initiative, “Heart for the Hungry: Overcoming Food Insecurity.” “I’m very excited for the opportunity that Miss Tennessee allows me to have on a grander scale to serve all of Tennessee.”

Mike "Salty" Yarbro

Mike "Salty" Yarbro, 75, of Parsons, passed away Monday, June 27, 2022 at Camden Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. Mike Yarbro graduated from Decaturville High School in 1965. After graduating high school, he proudly served his country through two tours in Vietnam as a member of the United States Navy Seabee-unit MCB62. Mike and Frances Comer Yarbro were married for over 53 years. He drove a truck for Ward Grain Co. for eight years and later retired from the New Johnsonville TVA. After retirement, he returned to work as a loader operator and truck driver at Teague Sand and Gravel for 18 years. Mike was a Master Mason of Parsons Lodge 586. He preached at Lord's Missionary Baptist Church for 30 years. Mike loved to hunt, fish, and participate in anything outdoors. Things he loved and cherished the most was his loving wife, family, and friends. Hard working, compassionate, and giving are just a few ways to describe his loving nature.

Kimberley (Kim) Vencion Ray

Kimberley (Kim) Vencion Ray of Waynesboro, TN was born on February 4, 1961 in Waynesboro, TN, the daughter of Clara Nell Pope Vencion of Waynesboro, TN, who survives and the late James Edward Vencion. She was united in marriage to Jerry Wayne Ray on April 28, 1989. Mrs. Ray was the secretary for 39 years at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Wayne County in Waynesboro, TN and was a member of the Waynesboro Church of God in Waynesboro, Tennessee. She was affectionately known as “Mama Kim” and enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family. Mrs. Ray departed this life on Friday, June 24, 2022 at St. Thomas Hospital West in Nashville, Tennessee at the age of 61 Years, 4 Months and 20 Days after a brief illness.

Young Farmers & Ranchers Host 9th Annual Truck & Tractor Pull

The old airport in Lexington was the site of the 9th Annual Young Farmers & Ranchers of Henderson County Truck and Tractor Pull on Saturday evening, June 25, 2022. Casey Youngerman said that the event was another huge success and continues to grow. “We raised enough money to continue our agriculture scholarship program and support our local FFA and 4-H programs. We present this event as a way to benefit the youth in our community and offer an exciting event to help raise money for those programs that is enjoyable for everyone,” he said.

Rayla Danielle Sanders, age 42, of Nashville, TN, was arrested on Tuesday, June 21 on a capias issued by the Wayne County Grand Jury. On June 17, 2022, the Grand Jury handed down an indictment against Sanders on one count of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine. She was arrested and booked into the Wayne County Jail on $30,000.00 bond.
