PINE RIDGE, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - Law enforcement officials are investigating after an infant was taken during a custodial dispute on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. Joann Hoof was just two days old when she was taken from her mother on April 29 at the Prairie Wind Hotel and Casino, according to Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women USA.

Red Cloud Indian School begins search for graves

PINE RIDGE, South Dakota — The search for truth began on a spring day under a brilliant blue sky at Red Cloud Indian School on the Pine Ridge reservation. The air fairly buzzed with blossoming life, a buzz that belied the serious business at hand. Red Cloud, a Catholic Jesuit school once known as Holy Rosary School, is beginning its search for graves of children who may have been buried here long ago.

Infrastructure investment; millions in federal funding earmarked for tribal dam upgrades

OGLALA, S.D. — The Oglala Dam is getting an upgrade after sitting empty for years. “We’re announcing $29 million in funding this fiscal year for the dams program, including $22 million to repair the dam at Pine Ridge, along with six other dams across Indian country,” says Bryan Newland, assistant secretary, U.S. Dept. of Interior for Indian Affairs.

PINE RIDGE RESERVATION, S.D. — The Oglala Sioux Tribe is asking for the public’s help in locating nine-year-old Cole Lee Wayne Mills. Mills stands four-foot-eight and weighs 90 to 95 lbs. with brown eyes and light brown hair. He was last seen around 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, east of Pine Ridge.

She attended business college in Rapid City, SD after high school.
