Meet Rex Weltz, Helena Public Schools' new superintendent

Though he may not officially take over until July 1, incoming Helena Public Schools Superintendent Rex Weltz has taken a hands-on approach throughout the transition process. For the last several months, Weltz has been working alongside outgoing Superintendent Tyler Ream, who is stepping down at the end of the month after three years with the school district.

Carroll Receives 4th Largest Single Gift from Simperman '62

HELENA – Carroll College is pleased to announce that Mr. Roy Simperman, a Carroll class of 1962 graduate and Chairman and CEO of Semaphore Corporation, and his wife Frances, have designated to the college a gift of over $2.3 million to fund continued renovations of the Jack and Sallie Corette Library and Simperman Learning Commons. With this donation, the Simpermans have provided Carroll with the 4th largest single gift in the history of the college.

WHEREAS, Section 20-6-604, Montana Code Annotated, provides in pertinent part: (1) Whenever the trustees of a district determine that a site, building, or any other real or personal property of the district is or is about to become abandoned, obsolete, undesirable, or unsuitable for the school purposes of the district, the trustees may sell or otherwise dispose of the real or personal property. If a decision to sell or dispose of property is made, the trustees shall adopt a resolution to sell or otherwise dispose of the district real or personal property because it is or is about to become abandoned, obsolete, undesirable, or unsuitable for the school purposes of the district. (2) The resolution may not become effective for 14 days after the notice required in subsection (3) is made. (3) The trustees shall provide notice of the resolution in the manner required for school elections in 20-20-204.

HELENA, Mont. - The Montana Learning Center at Canyon Ferry Lake in Helena has been awarded a $90,000 Northwest Earth and Space Sciences Pipeline (NESSP) grant by NASA. Helena High student who died in Canyon Ferry identified

The Helena High School student who died while swimming at Canyon Ferry Reservoir Saturday has been identified as Elias Bowe, 17, of Helena. The boy and other teens were swimming at the Crittenden day use area on the northwest side of the reservoir when the current became too strong for him to get back to shore, Lewis and Clark County Sheriff Leo Dutton said. The boy was reportedly not a strong swimmer, he said.
