Louisville plans to add downtown parking in time for holidays

The Louisville City Council plans to review bids for a project that will add around 40 new parking spaces to its downtown during a called meeting on Aug. 23. The new parking lot will be located on the grassy 1.1 acre lot where the Thomas Brothers automotive shop once stood on the north end of Broad Street. The lot was purchased by the Louisville Downtown Development Authority (LDDA) in 2015 and given to the city in 2022.

Louisville PD adds two new vehicles to patrol fleet

The City of Louisville recently used a USDA facilities grant and Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) funds to purchase two 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe SUVs as patrol vehicles for its police department. The city applied for the USDA grant in June of 2021, received the award last fall and have since been working on getting the vehicles striped and equipped with the technology used by patrol officers today.

Another online post puts Glascock County school on alert

GIBSON, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - For the second time this week, a social media post by a student has caused alarm in Glascock County. Deputies were informed around 10 p.m. Thursday of a social media post picturing a Glascock County middle school student with what appeared to be a handgun at their waistband. The post contained the wording “#schoolday,” according to authorities.

Glascock County Sheriff's Office investigating social media post

(GLASCOCK COUNTY, GA) - The Glascock County Sheriff's Office is investigating a social media post that led to a school lockdown Tuesday morning. According to Sheriff Jeremy Kelley, who explained this via a Facebook post, a photo of a 10th grader holding a weapon with the caption "#school day" prompted a lockdown at the school & his office was contacted. Deputies were stationed at the schools and Board of Education facility and quickly determined the student was with a parent. The student is at the Sheriff's Office and Sheriff Kelley says this is an ongoing investigation.
