Four COVID deaths, 265 new cases reported in Southeast Idaho during past week

Southeastern Idaho Public Health announced four local people died from COVID-19 and there were 265 new confirmed and probable cases in the region for the week of August 2-8. Two deaths were in Bannock County, one death was in Bingham County and the other death was in Caribou County, SIPH reported. Bannock County coroner urges residents to register next of kin, emergency contact

POCATELLO — Bannock County Coroner Torey Danner is encouraging all residents to provide first responders with emergency contacts and next-of-kin information. Danner’s office recently signed the county up to use a national database called the Next Of Kin Registry (NOKR). The registry compiles contact information accessible to first responders should police, ambulance or the coroner’s office need to contact them.

POCATELLO — A Pocatello man who is already serving 11 to 25 years in prison has been sentenced to additional prison time. After pleading guilty to a felony grand theft charge in Twin Falls, 24-year-old Micole Johnathan Hamilton was sentenced to four to eight years in prison. He had already been sentenced to 11 to 20 years for armed robbery and attempted murder with an additional indeterminate five years for injury to a jail in Bannock County.

The United Way of Southeastern Idaho has awarded more than $300,000 to local nonprofits. The contributions were part of their yearly grant process. Nearly $308,000 was given to 27 programs in the region to help with issues like housing and shelter, food insecurity, education and mental health. A few recipients include Family Services Alliance, the Idaho Food Bank, Pocatello Free Clinic, Casa Sixth Judicial District, Aid for Friends and Meals on Wheels. United Way also plans to distribute more than $119,000 in donor contributions to local nonprofits.
