A freelance bartending gig, a broken printer and perhaps a bit of serendipity are to thank for Lillian Oler’s latest business venture, Assemble Cocktail Workshop. The Bandera native and her family moved to Boerne from Napa Valley just more than a year ago and Oler, a longtime restaurant industry professional, started bartending private events at the invitation of a neighbor. Since no one carries cash, Oler liked to bring a printed QR code so customers who wanted to tip could scan it and simply Venmo her. But one day, her printer was broken. She walked over to the library to print her sign and on her way home noticed a “for lease” sign in the window of an adorable cottage downtown. “I thought, ‘My husband’s going to kill me, but I’m going to start a business here,’” she says, laughing.
