A BBQ cookoff, parade, car show, kid’s games and yes, fireworks, will be held at Novice, Texas this weekend. Novice is located just off Highway 84 in Northwest Coleman County and has been home to one of the largest fireworks shows in the area for many years. The fireworks show will be at dusk on Saturday, July 2nd.

Novice Fireworks Fest Friday and Saturday

Novice is holding a weekend of fun beginning on Friday night, July 1st. There will be the annual Cook Off, Car Show, Live Music, Margarita Contest, Vendors, Parade, Food, Kids Activities, the Gala and Fireworks. Please see all attachments and photos for more information.

It’s Sew Time in Runnels County

RUNNELS COUNTY – Runnels County 4-H’ers have been busy learning and using their newly acquired sewing skills. Over Spring Break, experienced sewers who were getting ready for District 7 4-H Fashion Show made 14 walker bags and donated them to the Ballinger Health Care and Rehab Nursing Home. This past week, 4-H’ers new to the Clothing and Textile project learned basic sewing skills and skills to use in the Duds to Dazzle part of the project. The girls learned how to take an ordinary item and turn it into something new. They turned a pizza pan into a decorative door hanger, a picture frame into a tray, and a cutlery tray into a jewelry organizer using paint, rope, flowers, ribbons, beads, scrapbook paper, and lots of hot glue.

Gordon L. Copeland, 71, of Novice

Gordon Copeland, also called husband, dad, brother, grandad, uncle, Torchy and Cods, left this life behind him on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at his residence in Novice. He was 71 years old. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Arrangements were made by Stevens Funeral Home...

KAREN HOELSCHER: 3 decades teaching in Miles

MILES – Karen Hoelscher taught elementary classes for 30 years in Miles, Texas, a small close-knit west Texas town of around 1,000 folks just a stone’s throw from San Angelo. During Hoelscher’s time teaching, from 1982-2013, she was also a cheerleading sponsor, UIL events sponsor, as well as being part of the Elementary school student council.

Ballinger students excel at state solo & ensemble contest

Three Ballinger High School students competed in the Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest, held at Kelly Lane Middle School in Pflugerville on May 28. Kira Garcia received a Division I (Superior) rating and gold medal, Nicolaas Holder received a Division II (Excellent) rating and silver medal, and Cayley Campbell received a Division III rating, which is approximately the same as a Division I rating at the region level.

Gordon L. Copeland, age 71, of Novice, died Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at his residence. Funeral arrangements are pending with Stevens Funeral Home in Coleman.

Ty Lang carries on a coaching tradition as he takes over in Ballinger

Ty Lang said, “Man, coaching’s in my blood.”. New Ballinger Head Coach Ty Lang is a third generation coach. Ty Lang said, “Yeah this is going to be the 118th season a Lang is going to be on the sidelines. That means a lot to me personally, because I know when I step out on the field I’m not just representing in this case the Ballinger Bearcats, but I’m representing the Lang family. My grandfather coached, my dad coached, my uncle coached. The family eyes are on me and I’ve got some big shoes to fill there.”

Rowena Lions Club Annual BBQ Cookoff

The Rowena Lions Club will be hosting the Annual “Meet You at the Square” BBQ Cookoff on Saturday, July 2, 2022 in downtown Rowena, TX. Categories will include Brisket, Ribs, Chicken, Beans and Margaritas. Cash prizes and trophies will be awarded to the top finishers. Entry fee will be $100 per team. There will be flag raising ceremony in the morning followed by a children’s parade (all children are welcomed and encouraged to participate). The Rowena 4H Club will be selling refreshments throughout the day. There will also be a Cornhole Tournament in the evening following the awards presentations. Novice Fire Department BBQ to be Held Saturday, March 19

The 36th Annual Novice Fire Department BBQ is scheduled for Saturday, March 19, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Novice Community Complex. The meal will feature Beef Brisket, BBQ Goat, Sausage, Potato Salad, Beans, Dessert, Tea or Water. Adults $15, Children (3-12) $7, age 3 and under Free.

Ballinger Powerlifting teams show well at Heart of Texas Meet

After a some time off the Ballinger Powerlifting teams traveled to Brady to compete at the Heart of Texas Meet and overall the performed very well. The boys were able to take home 3rd place as a team with six lifters bringing home a top 5 medal. The girls did very well also, with two lifters bringing home a top 5 medal.
