COVID-19 vaccinations offered for free at hospital

Over the past six weeks, hundreds of adults and teens have taken advantage of free COVID-19 vaccinations at Atrium Health Navicent Baldwin hospital in Milledgeville. “This is something we’ve been doing every Friday for the past six weeks,” said Thomas Treadwell, project manager at the local hospital. “It’s really worked out great for the community.”

Wolves win USBA hoops state title

Baldwin County teams’ uncanny ability to win state championships in the past year seems to have rolled right over into summer. The ninth grade Central Georgia E.M.P.A.C.T. (educate, motivate, prepare, advocate for, coach and teach) Wolves, an AAU team, is the latest local state champs after having won the United States Basketball Association’s (USBA) Georgia Championship Sunday night in Marietta. Seven young men hailing from schools in and surrounding Baldwin County went 4-0 through pool and bracket play to bring home the title. With the win, the team also punched its ticket to next month’s USBA National tournament to be held in Hampton, Va.

New scoreboard coming to Braves Stadium

The playing surface inside Baldwin High School’s Braves Stadium isn’t the only thing being replaced this summer. The school board unanimously voted Tuesday to purchase a $200,000 LED scoreboard for the stadium from Formetco Sports. As with other recent athletic improvements around the Baldwin County School District, education special purpose local option sales tax (E-SPLOST) dollars will be utilized to fund the project that is scheduled to be completed in time for the 2021 high school football season.

5 injured in Baldwin County wreck after driver falls asleep at the wheel, GSP says

Five people were injured in an early-morning crash that left one with a broken femur. Trooper First Class Kevin Kirby with the Georgia State Patrol said a Chevrolet Suburban carrying four people crossed the center line and hit a Ford Fusion head-on. The driver of the Suburban was heading into Milledgeville on Highway 22 from Sparta when he fell asleep at the wheel, Kirby said.
