BALDWIN COUNTY, Ga. (WGXA) -- Baldwin County fire investigators say they've determined the cause of a devastating fire at a local business. According to Arson Investigator Bradley Towe, the fire at C&R Cabinet Shop on North Columbia St. started around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday and was extinguished shortly after 9 p.m.

'Life is what you can do for others': Longtime Baldwin County hospital volunteer celebrates 100th birthday

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — A woman in Milledgeville is celebrating a big milestone, July 2, 2022. She's been volunteering at the hospital there for almost four decades. Meldra Panchelli has volunteered at Harriet's Closet at Atrium Health Navicent Baldwin for more than 10 years. She helps the patients who have cancer and are cancer survivors. She says she's been in their shoes before.

Baldwin County Fire and Rescue fight fire at State Prison

BALDWIN COUNTY, Ga. (WGXA) -- Baldwin County Fire and Rescue responded to a report of heavy smoke in one of the buildings at Baldwin State Prison. With backup from Milledgeville Fire Rescue Services, they were able to fight the fire and contain it to an office area within an hour.

Baldwin State Prison inmate found guilty of killing another inmate in fight

HARDWICK, Ga. — A Baldwin State Prison inmate accused of killing another inmate on Christmas Day in 2019 has now been convicted and sentenced. According to District Attorney T. Wright Barksdale, Albert Glover was found guilty on all counts in connection with the death of inmate Michael Dawson. Glover was sentenced to life without parole.

UPDATE: Body identified and recovered in Oconee River drowning

UPDATE: The Georgia DNR has provided another update on the recovery of the teen’s body. The DNR says that by utilizing the Remote Operated Vehicle, game wardens were able to find the body of 15 year-old Alex Carreto of Chamblee. Divers with the Milledgeville Fire Department were able to recover the body at 1:33 p.m.
