Smack-dab in the middle of an unprecedented run of personal success, Garrett Brown isn't looking to slow down anytime soon. Brown, the head boys basketball coach at Bakersfield Christian High School, was still in celebration mode 48 hours after his team captured a second consecutive Central Section title with a 56-55 win over Nipomo on Friday, and admits he's eager to keep the good feelings going.

Quinn hopes to find permanent home as Ridgeview football coach

Casey Quinn has heard some of the whispers. Quinn, who was hired as the head coach of the Ridgeview High School football team on Friday, has found a good deal of success in more than a decade as a head coach. This includes winning a Tri River Athletic Conference championship at Fresno-Central in 2011 and a South Sequoia League title at Chavez in 2014.

Graduation is a time-honored tradition at Kern Valley High School. Last year, parents had to watch from afar as their students walked across stage. The COVID-19 pandemic put a hold on tradition. Students could not sit next to their fellow graduating class, and other family and friends could not join for support. School teachers and staff did their best to make graduation an event to remember.

Kern County Superintendent of Schools Mary Barlow plans to audit the finances of the Fairfax School District, according to a letter read at the school board's meeting. Jamie Henderson, a management consultant with the county superintendent's office, read two letters to the board at the behest of Barlow. One dealt with her plans to audit the district, and another stated the board broke the law in restricting public comment at a board meeting this week.
