MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Tons of classic and exotic cars cruised to the Lauderdale County Agri-Center as car lovers got to show off their hot rides. The old school and new school car show made its way back to Meridian. Over 40 car lovers popped their hoods, revved up their engines, and fellowshipped with one another. The event organizer of the car show, James Petters said he wanted to bring the car community together while spreading positivity in the city.

The MAX hosts a Christmas in July event for First Saturday

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in July. The MAX hosted a Christmas in July event as a part of their 1st Saturday events. Parents and children could participate in many family-friendly activities like creating chalk pastel fireworks. Christmas cookies, popcorn, lemonade, and water were also available. Children were also able to play lawn games and listen to some Christmas tunes in the courtyard. Parents saw the day as a fun way to beat the summer heat.

Meridian Township Issues Cease and Desist Order for Public Safety

Effective June 30, Internattional, Inc., the subcontractor for MetroNet, is no longer authorized to perform work in Meridian Township due to repeated public safety concerns. On June 28, 2022, Meridian Township Fire Department and Department of Public Works responded to a gas leak on Hickorywood Drive in Okemos caused by underground drilling being performed by Internattional Inc.

Murder suspect surrenders to police

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - C.J. McLelland turned himself in to Meridian police Thursday morning. MPD publicized June 28 that it had an active warrant for murder on McLelland but did not disclose which murder case it involved. News 11 asked Thursday which case is connected to McLelland’s charge and MPD said it was the June 16 death of Garrian Owens, 23, on Highway 39.

Tropical Storm Bonnie formed Friday morning

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - What was Potential Tropical Cyclone #2 was able to organize into a tropical cyclone on Friday morning...becoming Tropical Storm Bonnie. For a while, this system had a hard time organizing, and its proximity to land played a big part in that. However, hurricane hunters were finally able to find a closed circulation...hence Bonnie was born over the SW Caribbean Sea. Regardless, this system still brought tropical storm conditions to parts of the Lesser Antilles and the ABC islands. Now, as an official tropical storm, it’s expected to bring direct impacts to portions of Central America mainly Friday evening through Saturday morning.

Meridian All-Stars head to Southwest Regional to represent Mississippi

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - A local all-star baseball team is getting ready to represent Meridian in regional play in hopes of advancing to the Babe Ruth World Series. The Meridian 9 and under Phil Hardin Cal Ripken All-Stars held a fundraiser Friday in downtown Meridian to help them head to the Southwest Regional in Hot Springs, Arkansas, July 7th-10th. Meridian earned the trip by capturing the state championship in Ocean Springs last weekend.

(WTOK) - Over the past couple of weeks, we have seen record temperatures with little to no rain, but the month of July looks to change that as we are starting with temperatures in the lower 90s and rain almost every day. Meridian has only received a little more than an inch of rain for June, and this is below the average by more than 3 inches. Luckily July is bringing us some of those summer showers and thunderstorms.

Meridian High School announces new head baseball coach

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Michael Lindsey is now the head coach of Meridian High School baseball. Coach Lindsey spent his first year at MHS last year as an assistant coach. He is now taking the helm after former head coach Eddie Easley took a job at Ridgeland High School in Madison, Mississippi.
