Multiple Crashes Overnight on I-80 Near Stuart

Multiple crashes overnight on Interstate-80 near Stuart results in injuries. According to the Stuart Fire Department, first responders were paged to mile marker 91 on the interstate around 3:45am Sunday. The fire department says the initial crash involved two semis and two passenger vehicles that blocked the two westbound lanes and partially blocked one of the eastbound lanes. While crews were on scene, another crash occurred in the eastbound lanes between a semi and a passenger vehicle.

Two Vehicles Destroyed Sunday In Carroll After Jumper Cable Sparks Fire

Two vehicles were destroyed in Carroll following a jumper cable mishap Sunday afternoon. At approximately 12:38 p.m., the Carroll Fire Department was dispatched to 628 Fieldcrest Dr. in response to a report of two vehicles on fire. According to Fire Chief Greg Schreck, a 2017 Jeep Cherokee had been connected to a 2006 BMW via jumper cables in an attempt to recharge a dead battery. The vehicles were left unattended for a short period of time, and the wind blew the hood of the BMW shut. The metal hood came into contact with the positive cable, sparking the blaze in the engine compartment. The fire spread to the Jeep due to its proximity to the BMW. No injuries were reported, but both cars were deemed total losses.

Functional Damage Reported In Two-Vehicle Accident Saturday In Carroll

No injuries were reported following a two-vehicle accident Saturday afternoon in Carroll. The Carroll Police Department responded to the scene near the intersection of Plaza and Bella Vista Drives at approximately 12:25 p.m. Their initial investigation determined a 2021 Ford Escape, driven by 73-year-old Shirley Schultes of Coon Rapids, was traveling eastbound on Plaza and failed to yield from a posted stop sign. Schultes proceeded into the intersection and was struck by a southbound 2010 Ford F150, operated by 23-year-old Samuel Ritchie of Westside. Both vehicles sustained functional damage as a result of the collision. Schultes was cited for failure to obey a stop sign.

Jefferson Man Accused of Attempted Murder

A Jefferson man is accused of attempted murder following an incident Monday night in Jefferson. Jefferson Police Chief Mark Clouse says 25-year-old Zachery Waters-Rice was serving probation and on a work release program in Fort Dodge after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor for domestic abuse from a previous incident this past March. Clouse tells Raccoon Valley Radio Waters-Rice allegedly left the work release program and came back to Jefferson where officers were first notified by a caller at 8:09pm Monday that Waters-Rice had allegedly discharged a shotgun that was pulled from a duffle bag on a bike at a passing vehicle heading south on Cedar Street.

2nd Annual BRAG is this Saturday in Greene County

This weekend is the 2nd Annual Bike Ride Around Greene County (BRAG) event. Co-organizer Emily Dyer with Jefferson Matters: A Main Street and Chamber Community says the 36 mile bike ride will start from the Welcome Center in Jefferson at 8:30am on Saturday. The route takes bicyclists from the Welcome Center, north to Lakeside Golf Course, then onto 209 Main restaurant in Paton, back south to Dana for a water stop, onto 30 Yard Line in Grand Junction, before coming back to Jefferson at Doc’s Stadium.

The Longest Serving Iowa Vietnam Prisoner of War Has Died

The Iowan who served more time as a prisoner of war than any other Iowan during the Vietnam War has died. The Des Moines Register reports that Larry Spencer passed away on Saturday. He was 82 years old. Spencer was a native of Earlham, Iowa, and was a U.S. Navy radar intercept officer. On February 18th, 1966, his F-4 Phantom was shot down over North Vietnam. The Register reports that Spencer and the aircraft pilot, James T. Ruffin, ejected from the aircraft. Spencer would go on to spend more than 2,550 days in North Vietnamese captivity. He was freed on February 12th, 1973, and was one of the first 20 American POWs returned from the Vietnam War.

AC/GC Final Results State Track And Field Championships

Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center track and field state participants had a very success weekend from Drake Stadium in Des Moines. It was a busy Saturday with six events going for ACGC. The day started with Ava Campbell finishing in 22nd place in the girls 800m dash along with a 16th place finish in the 1500 meter. Then Trevin Suhr ran in two events that include a solid time in the boys 800 meter dash with 8th place and a 5th place finish in the 1600 meter. Suhr concluded the state meet with three medals. Austin Kunkle participated in two individual Saturday events which started with a 4th place finish in the 100 meter and a 4th place placement in the 200 meter with a time 22.29 which is a new school record. Kunkle concluded the state meet with three medals. Finally, the boys 4×100 was disqualified.
