KEARNEY, Neb. — Two railroad crossings in Kearney will be closed Thursday as the city performs maintenance and repairs on the crossings. Judge orders Kearney restaurant owner to pay employees $17K in back pay

“Parable” sculpture to be centerpiece of University Village

KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) - The University of Nebraska-Kearney is planning on bringing a new sculpture to University Village to act as a centerpiece to that part of campus. “Parable” will be made up of three steel arches, the shortest 25-feet and the tallest 40-feet. It will be surrounded by concrete staging and seats as well as have space underneath for people to walk through. There will also be LED lighting to highlight the sculpture at night.

Kearney changes alcohol sales hours on Sundays

KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) - The Kearney City Council voted Tuesday night to adjust the hours of alcohol sales on Sundays. Before it could be sold from 7 a.m. to 1 a.m. the next day Monday through Saturday. Then on Sundays, sales started at 11 a.m. instead. They voted unanimously to change it to the same hours all week.

I-80 pursuit includes damage at Crane Trust, taxi ride from Alda exit

An eventful pursuit along Interstate 80 Monday night included damage to fencing at Crane Trust, after which three people hailed a cab at the Alda interchange. Nike Stevens of Chicago was arrested early Tuesday morning by the Nebraska State Patrol. Stevens, 26, was the driver of a Jeep Patriot that also contained a woman and a child. At one point, the Patriot was traveling more than 100 mph, according to the State Patrol.

KEARNEY, Neb. (WOWT) - The Nebraska State Patrol arrested a man from Chicago with multiple charges after many incidents from Monday night into Tuesday morning. Nike Stevens, 26, was arrested for assault on an officer with a motor vehicle, flight to avoid arrest, child abuse/neglect, resisting arrest, and obstruction. The incidents started with a chase after a previous traffic stop.

Nature camps return to Rowe Sanctuary; openings still available

GIBBON — After a year off because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Audubon’s Rowe Sanctuary is again hosting nature day camps for children. This is the second of four weeks for the Tuesday-Thursday Platte River Safari camp that will be attended by 60 children who have just completed grades 2-5. Each group is limited to 15 campers and usually two adult leaders — two from the Rowe staff or one staff member and one volunteer.
