No more snow days in Macomb School District

The Board of Education agreed to have the district hold E-Learning days instead of calling off classes for emergencies such as snow storms. “On these years where you have four, five, six snow days, those really end up being four, five, six lost learning days, because when you tack them onto the end (of the school year), there’s no way of creating that continuity of learning,” said Superintendent Patrick Twomey.

Two juveniles charged, one man charged after Sunday afternoon fight during Railroad Days carnival.

Galesburg Police on Sunday afternoon (6/26) were dispatched to the Public Square for a fight in progress. The Railroad Days carnival was taking place at the time. Officers first met with a group of females who reported two male juveniles fighting on the square. The two males were separated and detained. As officers were escorting the males to a squad car, according to police reports, 30 or 40 people went running by officers, and a large group of people – mostly juveniles, had gathered around another altercation taking place. An adult male subject was seen running towards another juvenile male subject and began striking him repeatedly in the face and head. Numerous people in the crowd were encouraging the two to fight. Police responded back to the crowd and began deploying pepper spray until the crowd dispersed. The adult male was identified as 25-year-old Emmett Blow of Galesburg. The two male juveniles were each charged with Disorderly Conduct and released to their guardians. Blow was transported to the Knox County Jail and charged with Mob Action and Aggravated Battery.

Several Ongoing Projects This Summer Within the Monmouth-Roseville School District

Several facilities within the Monmouth-Roseville School District are receiving upgrades this summer says Superintendent Ed Fletcher:. “We are doing some asbestos abatement in the AP Room at the high school and get a new floor. The high school gym has been painted and it looks really nice. We have had some new seat tops installed on the bleachers. We will be getting a new sound system and a new scoreboard in cooperation with the Sports Boosters. If you have ever driven by the circle drive at the high school when we have had a large rain, there is a small pond that sits there because of the drainage and so we are actually working with the city to get that fixed here shortly as well. Air conditioning is being installed at Central and Harding.”
