Zach Calton made a decisive move along Abrams Creek with 12 miles remaining, pulling away on the Ram’s Horn Escape course’s final climb to win the men’s inaugural Bighorn Gravel men’s title on Sunday with a time of 4 hours, 59 minutes and 33 seconds. Boulder’s Scott Funston finished second (5:05:12) and hometown hero Josiah Middaugh was third (5:10.35).

Vail Lacrosse Shootout gets underway

The Elder Statesman have been ruling the roost during the Vail Lacrosse Tournament’s first two days. The supermaster (40-plus) division at the 50th annual Vail lacrosse classic has been all Statesman, who outscored their opponents 24-2 in Saturday’s first two games before a 17-3 dismantling of WestFax Brewing — last year’s runner-ups — on Sunday. Breck Film increases Spanish language programing

In an effort to better support those in the Summit County community who speak Spanish, Breck Film will be screening a selection of upcoming films in the language. First, Disney’s “Lightyear” will have Spanish screenings starting Friday, July 1, at The Eclipse Theater, 103 S. Harris St. in Breckenridge. The film opened June 17 and will continue at the theater through July 7. The Spanish screenings are 2 p.m. Friday, July 1; 4:30 p.m. Saturday, July 2; 2 p.m. Sunday, July 3; 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 6; and 7 p.m. Thursday, July 7.

Eagle County primary ballots must be dropped off Tuesday

If you want to vote in this year’s primary election and haven’t yet cast your ballot, you’d better get to it. It’s too late to drop a ballot in the mail — ballots must be received by the Eagle County Clerk & Recorder’s Office by 7 p.m. Tuesday. There are a number of drop boxes throughout the county. If ballots are in those boxes by 7 p.m. Tuesday, they’ll be counted, with one exception.

In between this column and my next column, Colorado will have held primary elections and the United States will have celebrated its 246th birthday. The U.S. Constitution in Article II, Section 3 requires “(The president) from time to time give to the Congress Information of the State of the Union, and recommend to their Consideration such Measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient.”
