FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Police are investigating a shooting on Fort Wayne’s southeast side that left a man critically hurt Monday afternoon. Fort Wayne Police and medics were called around 2:30 p.m. to the 5100 block of Bowser Avenue, near East Fairfax Avenue south of East Pettit Avenue, on a report of a shooting.

Fort Wayne Man Convicted of Drug Trafficking and Firearms Charges

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A Fort Wayne Man has been convicted of drug trafficking and firearms charges. 37-year-old Steven J. Hecke of Fort Wayne, Indiana, was found guilty Monday after a five-day jury trial of two counts of distributing methamphetamine, one count of maintaining a drug-involved premises, one count of possessing methamphetamine and fentanyl with the intent to distribute, one count of possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, and one count of possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. Hecke’s sentencing will be scheduled by separate order of the Court for the coming weeks.

Service for former Homestead, NBA star planned for Thursday

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) - Services for the Fort Wayne native turned NBA player who tragically died last week at the age of 25 are planned for this week. The coroner’s office said Swanigan died of natural causes on June 20. The former NBA player also played basketball at Homestead High School before playing for Purdue University. During his NBA career, Swanigan also worked with Portland-area youth and FoodCorps to promote healthy eating habits in schools and eliminate child hunger.
