Vera Lois Uyeyama (Morris)

Vera Lois Uyeyama passed away on January 11, 2022 in Hanford after a long battle with Alzheimers Disease. Vera was born on February 18, 1943 in Ardmore, OK but has been a part of Kings County since she moved with her husband, Dr. Bill Uyeyama, DDS, in 1968. She worked as a beloved and knowledgeable RN at Hanford Community Hospital in the ICU and at Avenal State Prison for many years.

Bullpups softball earn No. 1 seed | Roundup

The road to the CIF Central Section Division II Championships will go through Hanford after the Hanford High Bullpups softball team earned the No. 1 seed. The Bullpups, who are coming off ending the regular season 19-6 overall and 10-0 in the West Yosemite League will host No. 16 seed Sunnyside High School in the first round on Wednesday, May 18 in Hanford. With a win, the Bullpups would host either No. 8 Selma High or No. 9 seed Redwood High School in the second round of the playoffs on Friday, May 20.

Macedo Does It Again At Fremont

FREMONT, Ohio — Cole Macedo averted catastrophe Saturday at Fremont Speedway. The Lemoore, Calif., driver thought his chance at a win was over when, during a red flag fuel stop, a hole was found in his tire. His Ray Brooks Racing Team went to work and plugged the tire and Macedo drove to his second straight win at the third-mile dirt track.

Lemoore High School athlete Shane Bagley breaks pole vault record

Shane Bagley, 17, is a hard-working senior at Lemoore High School whose ambition and work ethic are paying off. On April 29, he broke Lemoore High School's decade-old pole vault record with a vault of 16 feet 5 inches, ranking him second in the state and 20th in the nation during the Thunderbird Classic at Robert F. Kennedy High School in Delano.

As the Valley weather turns warm, the air, as always, turns a dusty brown. But now, intermingling and almost overpowering the native dust is a gray cloud of smog. And this gray goo doesn’t just make for pretty sunsets and starless night skies. It can kill. According to the American Lung Association, in its “State of the Air” report, the zone quality data for 1998-2000 grades area counties as having unhealthful air 33 times a year. That’s a 45% improvement from 1995-1996. But, in its 2001 report, the American Lung Association (ALA) gave an “F” grade to Kings County for quality.

Wallace finds new home at St. Johns

Madison Wallace, former Lemoore High School standout, found a new home in 2022 to continue her college softball career. Wallace, a 2018 graduate of Lemoore High, transferred to St. Johns after spending the previous three seasons at Fresno State. She is a redshirt junior for the Red Storm. She opted out of the 2021 season at Fresno State before transferring to St. Johns.

Drunk driver reportedly causes near collision with deputy

Aaliyah Sanchez was arrested on multiple charges after a near collision with a Kings County Sheriff's deputy early Sunday morning, according to the Sheriff's office. On May 8 around 2:12 a.m., a Kings County deputy was on patrol in rural Kings County when a Nissan Altima traveling in the opposite direction swerved into the opposite lane forcing the deputy to drive off the roadway to avoid a collision.

Charles Chuck R. Onken, LCDR USN (Ret.)

Charles Chuck R. Onken, LCDR USN (Ret.), 82, of Lemoore, California, passed away on April 30, 2022. Just like he dealt with all experiences in his life, he managed his illness with strength, grace, and a stubborn determination. During the final days of his life, he was surrounded by his family and died a true old warriors death he was not defeated, he simply laid down his weapons and ceased to fight.
