Funeral service will be held at 11 A.M. on Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at the United Methodist Church in Scranton with Rev. Angelo Luis officiating. Burial will be in the Paton Township Cemetery.

The Carroll City Council will review bids for the proposed Carroll Rec Center improvement project, consider moving forward with the final phase of the Downtown Streetscape Project, and more at tomorrow’s (Monday) meeting. One of the first items of business is formal council approval of the hire of Dan Hannasch as Carroll’s next fire chief. His first official day with the city is July 11, and he will be replacing Greg Schreck, who is retiring next month after a 40-year career with the Carroll Fire Department. City Manager Mike Pogge-Weaver says the council will continue a discussion from their previous meeting concerning the end of the Downtown Streetscape project.

The Panora City Council will meet Monday. The Council will consider for approval a truck equipment quote for a Ford Leer Topper and utility box and they will consider approving a certain loan agreement providing for the placement and issuance of $2.4 million General Obligation Corporate Purpose Bonds and providing for the levy of taxes. Also, the Council will consider approving a member to the Veteran’s Auditorium Board, clarify the effective date for an annual pay change for employees and discuss proposals regarding Boland Recreation playground proposals for Michael Mills Park.

(Council Bluffs) Five Cass County, Iowa residents were arrested on federal indictments charging Conspiracy to Distribute Fentanyl. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa says the arrests are the result of a six-month investigation into a series of fentanyl overdose cases occurring in Cass and Shelby Counties. The investigation identified a fentanyl distribution network that covered Western Iowa and Eastern Nebraska. The investigation into this distribution network remains ongoing.

(Elk Horn) The Exira-EHK school board took care of a number of routine items during their June meeting. Superintendent Trevor Miller says Kids in the Village is up and running inside the school. The Board has formally approved a lease agreement for the daycare. “It opened June 1st and they have around 15 kids. Getting the quirks out, but it’s going well and it’s good. It helps out the community and it’s a good partnership with our district.”

There will be a breakfast tomorrow in Panora to help fundraise for a local non-profit organization. The Tori’s Angels Foundation will be at the community center from 8am-1pm tomorrow serving pancakes, eggs, sausage links and a beverage option for a free will donation. CASS COUNTY, Neb. — Five Cass County, Iowa, residents were arrested Friday for conspiracy to distribute fentanyl, according to the Department of Justice. The five arrested on federal indictments were 19-year-old Mason Blaine Loudermilk of Atlantic, Iowa; 28-year-old Chase Daniel Jahnke of Lewis, Iowa; 26-year-old Kelsi Marie Thurman of Lewis, Iowa; 25-year-old Colby Ray Clarken of Atlantic, Iowa; and 19-year-old Collin Jacob Clarken of Atlantic, Iowa, according to court documents.

The 40th annual Manilla Rough Riders Chuckwagon Barbecue and Open Horse Show is this weekend in Manilla. The event takes place on the north edge of Manilla at Rough Riders Arena on Sunday. Entry to the Horse Show begins at 11:00 a.m., with the show starting at 12:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Nine events will take place during the show, including junior barrel crawl, spear race, pole bending, barrel race, flag race, and more. The entry fee is three dollars per event or $15 for all of them. Grilled pork and beef sandwiches along with refreshments will be available.
