Atoka gas price survey: Cheapest station saves $0.20 per gallon

(ATOKA, OK) Depending on where you fill up in Atoka, you could be saving up to $0.20 per gallon on gas. Choctaw Travel Plaza at 1302 S Mississippi Ave was the cheapest station in the area, according to a survey by GasBuddy, with regular listed at $2.79 per gallon Wednesday. By comparison, the most expensive gallon was at Shamrock at 600 S Mississippi Ave, where a gallon of regular was selling for $2.99.

While it’s true that thousands of Civil War soldiers died of the measles, it was still considered a “children’s ailment” for many decades after the war. Most cases were mild and most children recovered from the fever and rash. However, a few relapsed the next week, developed pneumonia, and died. And every two to four years there seemed to be a surge in cases and deaths that suddenly took on epidemic status. During epidemic years adults became infected and sometimes several members of one family succumbed to the disease. Rhonda Karen (Howard) Hoover, age 59, a longtime Caney, OK resident and a one time resident of Texarkana, AR, was born on Saturday, January 20, 1962, to Charles Sammy and Peggy Sue (Biffle) Howard, at Oklahoma City, OK. Rhonda passed away on Friday, July 9, 2021 at her home in Caney, OK. She graduated from Caney High School, received her Bachelor's from University of North Texas, received her Master's Degree from Texas A&M in Texarkana, AR. Rhonda was a housewife and homemaker, previously she was a Veteran's Financial Counselor at Texas A&M in Texarkana, AR. She married Michael Carl Hoover on Monday, May 22nd, 2006 at Texarkana, TX. They celebrated 15 years of marriage. Rhonda was a member of Caney First Baptist Church, Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening, crafting and spoiling grandchildren. Rhonda is survived by her husband, Michael Carl Hoover of the home in Caney, OK; sons, Rion Jacobs and wife Jen of Waxahachie, TX, James Jacobs and wife Libby of Caney, OK, Hastings Hoover of Texarkana, AR; daughter, Ariel Hall of Texarkana, AR; 11 grandchildren; parents, Charles Sammy and Peggy Sue (Biffle) Howard of Caney, OK; bonus mom, Linda Hoover of Texarkana, AR; brother, Luke Howard of Caney, OK; along with numerous cousins, aunt, uncles and many dear and loved friends.
