(Rock Port) -- One person was injured when an SUV collided with a deer in Atchison County early Sunday evening. The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred on northbound I-29 near Rock Port at around 7:20 p.m. Authorities say a northbound 2014 Ford Explorer driven by 35-year-old Jose Jimenez of Omaha struck a deer in the passing lane. The vehicle came to a controlled stop in the median.
65 year old Denny E Porter of Rock Port crashed Friday night in Atchison County. Porter was eastbound on Highway 136, 2 miles west of Rock Port, when he traveled off the roadway. Porter struck a guardrail, traveled down an embankment and was submerged in water. He exited the vehicle prior to it submerging. Porter did not seek medical treatment.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and the pinwheel display set up by CARE of Atchison County can be found at State Farm Insurance in Rock Port. Each pinwheel represents a victim of domestic violence that CARE worked with in 2020. There are 151 pinwheels, that is 151 people in our community that have been a victim of domestic violence. An early morning motorcycle accident Wednesday claimed the life of a 42-year-old Atchison County Corrections Officer. Jeremy S. Masuch, of Nortonville, was pronounced dead at the accident scene located at the junction of U.S. 59 Highway and Kansas Highway 116 about 10 miles south of Atchison along U.S. 59 Highway, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol Crash Log report.

Three teens were injured Sunday afternoon following a single vehicle crash in Atchison County. A 17 year old male from Tarkio was northbound on Route O, 1 miles northeast of Tarkio. The vehicle came into a curve and attempted to make a turn and failed. The car continued off the roadway, struck an embankment, went airborne and drove into another embankment and overturned.
