Mervin Mark Sexton, age 67 of Manhattan, Kan., passed away June 14, 2021, at his residence in Manhattan. Mark was born May 29, 1954, to Cecelia and Mervin Lee Sexton of Abilene, Kan. Mark worked at Union Pacific Railroad for 30 years when he retired. He began as a machine operator engineer.

Salina PrideFest kicks off Friday in Oakdale Park

From Friday to Sunday this week, Pride events will be hosted in Oakdale Park in Salina. North Central Kansas Pride is hosting the PrideFest All-Stars beginning with music at 6 p.m. Friday at the park from bands Mellowphobia and Dumpstar. At 8 p.m. that same night, the organization will be showing the cult classic film, "The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert."

Take precautions to protect people, pets from soaring heat

High temperatures in the area are expected to reach levels dangerous to both people and pets during the next few days. The National Weather Service in Wichita has forecast Wednesday's high for Salina to be near 100 degrees, while Thursday's high is expected to be near 105 and Friday's high near 101.

Police investigating theft of trailer from Salina business

Police are investigating the theft of an $1,800 trailer from a west-central Salina business. Ryan's Electric Service, Inc, 1108 Holiday Street, reported that sometime after 4 a.m. Tuesday, someone entered the property and at 4:27 a.m. drove off with a five-foot by 10-foot aluminum-framed Carry-On trailer, Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester reported this morning. The trailer was valued at $1,800 and does not have a license tag on it.

Police seek driver involved in hit-and-run accident

Police are looking for the driver who left the scene of a two-vehicle accident Monday night in south Salina. A black or dark blue vehicle was eastbound on E. Magnolia Road when it attempted to turn left onto Belmont Boulevard and struck a westbound 2015 Ford Escape driven by Juanita Garcia, 40, of Salina, according to Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester. The Escape had right front-end damage.

Catalytic converter thefts continue

The Smoky Hill Education Service Center reported to the Salina Police Department Tuesday that a catalytic converter had been stolen from one of its vehicles.
