Gas prices drop for the second straight week ahead of 4th of July holiday

WLOS — Average gasoline prices in Asheville have fallen 2.9 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $4.63 per gallon Monday, according to GasBuddy's survey of 259 stations in Asheville. Prices in Asheville are 24.8 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and stand $1.68 per gallon higher than a year ago. The price of diesel has risen 2.6 cents nationally in the past week and stands at $5.80 per gallon.

Summer has officially arrived, and with it has come plenty of new fruits and berries at farmers markets this week! Be sure to arrive early to get in on some of the goodness. Creasman Farms brought their first picking of peaches this season to Asheville City Market last week. In addition to peaches, we’re starting to see more of our favorite seasonal berries making their long-awaited return to markets as well! Full Sun Farm and Flying Cloud Farm brought some delicious blueberries to the River Arts District and North Asheville markets. McConnell Farms also had blackberries at North Asheville Tailgate Market. Bear Necessities has had red and golden raspberries for the past few weeks at Asheville City Market and West Asheville Tailgate Market.

One person killed, another in critical condition after car vs. motorcycle crash

FLETCHER, N.C. (WLOS) — Authorities confirm, that one person has died after a crash Sunday morning in Fletcher. The Fletcher Police Department confirms Brian Pinheiro, 41, was transported to Mission Hospital following the crash, where he later died from his injuries. A second person who was on the motorcycle, Kelly Pinheiro, 45, was also transported to Mission Hospital where she remains in critical condition.
