The MLS reports that last month there were 199 homes sold worth a combined total of over $100 million. This is an 8.7 percent decrease in sales volume compared to last year when 273 homes sold for $ 109 million. The median sold price for the month of April of this year was $422,010, a 32 percent increase versus April of 2021 ($320,000). Sellers received an average of 99% of the list price this April.

Ashe County Habitat for Humanity receives $25,000 donation

JEFFERSON — Ashe County Habitat for Humanity received a $25,000 donation from a runner in the Blue Ridge Relay, which is an annual event that passes through Ashe County every fall. After running parts of the Relay through the county and meeting Habitat volunteers helping with the race over the past few years, he began to feel a connection with Ashe County. The donor runner, who wishes to remain anonymous, was impressed with the work of the mostly volunteer-run affiliate and knows his money will help increase the organization’s impact on the affordable housing shortage in the county. Five deaths added to the COVID-19 death count in Ashe since previous update

ASHE COUNTY — On May 6, AppHealthCare released their monthly COVID-19 situation update for Ashe County and stated that five new deaths were added to the death count from Jan. 1 to March 31 due to NCDHHS moving to an electronic death certificate system. ASHE COUNTY - Ashe County Sheriff B. Phil Howell easily won the Republican primary with 3,519 votes (77.17%) over challenger Luke Staley, who finished with 1,041 votes (22.83%).
