Tifton man who led police on high-speed chase sentenced for drug trafficking

A Tifton man who led police on a high-speed chase has been sentenced to prison for trafficking heroin to south central Georgia. 24-year-old Joshua Gannon Deanda, was sentenced to twelve and a half years in prison resulting from his role actively trafficking large quantities of heroin into South Central Georgia from sources in metro Atlanta. Deanda was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Hugh Lawson on June 21 after previously pleading guilty to conspiracy to distribute heroin.

Cobb elections audit of Smyrna council race falls two votes short of initial count

MARIETTA — A hand count by Cobb elections officials Friday ended in a vote tally that fell just short of the tally counted on election night. In the race for the open Smyrna City Council Ward 2 seat, Latonia Hines squeaked out a victory over Natalie Keng in Tuesday’s runoff. While the initial tally from Election Day gave Hines 203 votes to Keng’s 188, the audit conducted Friday tallied 201 votes for Hines, while the count for Keng remained 188.

Governor Kemp appoints two to Superior Court bench

Atlanta, GA – Governor Brian P. Kemp today announced that he has appointed Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) Director Vic Reynolds and Deputy Attorney General Julie Adams Jacobs to fill two vacancies on the Cobb Judicial Circuit Superior Court. The vacancies were created by the retirements of Judge LaTain Kell and Judge Mary Staley Clark, both effective on May 1st of this year. Vic Reynolds' replacement as Director of the GBI will be announced at a later date.
