Balloon release held in Iowa in remembrance of three teens killed Friday

DUBUQUE, Iowa (KWWL) – Dozens of people from the Dubuque community came out Saturday evening to pay their respects to three teens killed Friday morning in a car crash. The teens were students at Dubuque Senior High. A balloon release was organized by the cheerleaders of Senior High at Dalzell Field. Pictures of the tribute are above.

Car vaults, rolls off Highway 151 due to "medical event," Linn County Sheriff says

LINN COUNTY, Iowa - (Iowa's News Now) — The Linn County Sheriff's Office says one person was injured when his car vaulted over a road between Springville and Anamosa. The crash happened just before 2 pm Saturday. The sheriff's office, along with Linn County Rescue, Jones County Sheriff deputies, and first responders from Anamosa responded to the crash on Highway 151 near Taylor Road.

DUBUQUE, Iowa (KCRG) — Three teenagers died in a single-vehicle crash early Friday morning, KCRG reports. Iowa State Patrol said it happened at about 1:21 a.m. when the driver of a 2014 Chevy Camaro, William Wodrich, 18, of Dubuque, was heading southbound on NW Arterial at a high rate of speed.

Dubuque Accident Takes 3 Teenage Lives

(Dubuque, IA) — Three eastern Iowa teenagers have died in a rollover accident that happened early Friday morning. The Iowa State Patrol reports that 18-year-old William Wodrich the Fourth of Dubuque was driving a Chevy Camaro at a high rate of speed when he lost control entered a ditch, and his vehicle rolled. The accident happened at about 1:20 a-m on the city’s northwest side. Wodrich was killed along with two passengers – Kennedy Elskamp and Chloe Lucas, both 17 and both from Dubuque.

Third lawsuit filed following Monday's fatal train derailment in Chariton County

An Iowa woman who was injured during an Amtrak train derailment is the first injured passenger to file a lawsuit. The Associated Press reports Janet Williams of Dubuque, Iowa, filed a federal lawsuit Friday. The complain alleges negligent design of the railroad crossing near the town of Mendon, and says the train was packed with too many riders. Williams’ lawsuit says she sustained significant and life-altering injuries when she was suddenly thrown from her seat, struck by luggage, and crushed by other passengers as her train car flipped onto its side.

Lancaster man dies in rural Grant Co. semi vs. van crash

MOTFORT, Wis. — One man was killed Thursday after a semi and van collided on a rural Grant County highway, sheriff’s office officials said. The crash happened shortly before 11:45 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 18 and Bethel Road, west of Montfort. When crews got to the scene, they found that a Ford van had been driving west on the highway and turned in front of a semi that was traveling east on Highway 18.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The first lawsuits have been filed following an Amtrak train collision and derailment in rural Missouri that killed four people and injured up to 150 others. Surviving passenger Janet Williams of Dubuque, Iowa, filed a federal lawsuit Friday naming Amtrak, BNSF Railway and MS Contracting, the employer of the dump truck driver who died when his vehicle was struck. The complaint alleges negligent design of the railroad crossing, and says the train was packed with too many riders. The Kansas City Star reports that Amtrak and BNSF sued MS Contracting Thursday, saying the train was “clearly visible.” Truck driver Billy Barton II died in the collision, along with three passengers. Barton’s widow sued Chariton County and a BNSF official on Thursday.
