Boulder closing Scott Carpenter pool because of contamination

Boulder Parks and Recreation is closing the Scott Carpenter Leisure Pool, diving well and lazy river on Saturday because of fecal contamination. The lap pool will be open for leisure swimming from 1 to 6 p.m. The slides are open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the splash pad is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Coroner IDs Boulder man who died biking on Chapman Drive Trail

A 66-year-old Boulder man who died after collapsing during a bike ride on Chapman Drive Trail has been identified as Michael Wasser. Wasser was identified in a release sent out Friday by the Boulder County Coroner’s Office, which has been conducting an investigation to determine the cause and manner of death.

New Lafayette art installation celebrates Spanish heritage within the community

LAFAYETTE, Colorado — An artist is installing a mural in the city of Lafayette to celebrate the Spanish heritage within the community. Jessica Manzanares received a grant from the Lafayette Public Arts Commission. The artist along with her Aunt went door to door asking Spanish families for photos of their well-known matriarchs and patriarchs that created roots in Lafayette at a time when the city was not the most welcoming.

Friend of teen killed in Lafayette shooting charged with criminally negligent homicide

A friend of a 14-year-old boy who killed during a February shooting was charged Friday with criminally negligent homicide. After an investigation by the Lafayette Police Department and with the assistance from the Boulder County District Attorney’s Office, it was determined that the 14-year-old victim, Thomas Rushing, was shot by his good friend who is also 14 years old, according to a news release.

Victims in plane crash near Centennial Airport identified as Georgia couple

Colorado authorities have identified two people who died in a small plane crash south of Denver as a husband and wife from Jonesboro, Georgia. The Douglas County Coroner’s Office says 65-year-old Kathleen Velazco and 73-year-old Antenor Velazco were killed when their single-engine propeller plane struck an electrical line on approach to Centennial Airport and crashed in a large field on Wednesday.
