Victim Of Fatal Shooting Identified

A 19-year-old man is dead after a shooting Sunday night in Springfield. Police say the shooting took place in the 2000 block of Lions Court. As police were responding, they encountered a vehicle at Laurel and Wirt that was transporting the victim to the hospital. EMS crews were dispatched to that location and transported the man by ambulance to HSHS St. John’s Hospital, where he died shortly after 7pm. Coroner Jim Allmon identifies him as 19-year-old Jamarius Williams of Springfield, and says he died of a single gunshot wound to the back.

State Revokes Car Rental Company’s Plates, But Company Says It’s Still In Business

The Illinois Secretary of State’s Office says it has revoked the license plates used by a Springfield car rental business… but the business itself disagrees. A spokesman for Secretary of State Jesse White says it took the action against Urgent Rent-A-Car last week because the company is not in compliance with state insurance regulations. But on its Facebook page and in a phone call, Urgent Rent-A-Car insists that it passed an “audit” by Secretary of State Police last week and says it remains open for business.

Negotiations on Placement of AT&T Tower in South Jacksonville Remains Ongoing

Negotiations between AT&T and the Village of South Jacksonville remain open as to the placement of a cellphone tower in the village. Trustee Todd Warrick says that AT&T is offering to build a tower on the village’s property and possibly cede the deed to the tower to the village.
