No injuries after fire at Morton home Sunday

MORTON, Ill. (WMBD) — Fire inspectors are working to learn the cause of a fire that damaged a Morton home on the corner of N. Main and E. Tyler Streets Sunday afternoon. According to Morton Fire Chief Joe Kelly, fire crews responded to the fire just before noon. He said two people escaped the fire, and no one was injured.

Morton takes over 40 acres for annual Independence Day celebration

PEORIA (Heart of Illinois ABC) - Morton celebrated their annual pregame to Independence day using over 30 football fields of space. The park district expected over 5,000 attendees. Most of the field was left empty for residents to claim their viewing spot before the big show after dark. Scattered throughout the 40 acres of McClallen Park were giant inflatables for kids, laser tag, as well as multiple food vendors and the summertime-classic lemon shake-up.

Three men arrested, multiple weapons seized in Friday night patrol stop

PEORIA (Heart of Illinois ABC) - Police say three men were arrested and multiple weapons were seized during a patrol stop Friday night. 20-year-old Javion Parker, 20-year-old Marquavion Moore and 22-year-old Kaleel Davis were interviewed, arrested and transported to the Peoria County Jail. Three handguns were also seized, including a ghost gun with an extended magazine.

Hundreds gather for German-American Volksfest

DUNLAP, Ill. (WMBD) — Members of the Peoria German American Society (PGAS) held their annual German-American Volksfest, where hundreds of people filled Hickory Grove Park. The family-friendly event featured stein holding, soccer, a 50/50 raffle, a shooting tent, and Nagelspielen, which translates to “the nail game.” The club also sold merchandise and put on a car show.

‘Volksfest’ puts the focus on community with a cultural flair

The annual ‘Volksfest’ — German for ‘people’s fest’ — is the second of four summer festivals the group hosts at Hickory Grove Park in Dunlap. It’s a celebration of all things German culture, complete with culturally appropriate food, music, and beer. Plenty of activities were spread out across the park, including a craft show, soccer, and even a shooting tent.

The documentary is titled Orange and Black: Behind the number. Filming took place in the Manual High School gym where ex-players, coaches and opponents from decades ago recounted their history with the multi-state championship-winning team.

PEORIA, Illinois (WMBD) – Peoria City blanked the Thunder Bay Chill 3-0 Sunday night in their final home game of the 2022 regular season. PEORIA (Heart of Illinois ABC) - Sunday Morning League history was made Sunday in Peoria. The 107-year-old amateur baseball league has a new king of the mound. Clay McConkey, of the Miller Lite team, struck out his 950th batter during Sunday’s game, breaking the league’s 58-year-old record for strikeouts once held by Harry Dean Blair.
