Colquitt woman celebrates turning 102 after getting COVID twice

COLQUITT, Ga. (WALB) - Inside a Colquitt home is a story of a woman that has lived for 102 years...and counting. Emma Smith says she’s never drunk or smoked. She credits her long life to her faith, and that is for good reason. Smith was sent home to die a few years ago after taking a fall. Also, since the pandemic began, she’s gotten COVID-19 twice.

“News 4 Hometown Tour” to visit five Wiregrass cities in July

DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) -Each Friday during July, WTVY News 4 will travel to a different city in the Wiregrass to produce and broadcast its top-rated evening newscasts for the “News 4 Hometown Tour Sponsored by AMX Trucking.” The tour will begin July 1 in Blakely, GA, then travels to Ozark, AL (July 8), Abbeville (July 15), Enterprise (July 22) and finishes up in Hartford, AL on July 29.

Terrell Academy’s baseball team wins GISA AA championship

DAWSON, Ga. (WALB) - After over 30 years, the Terrell Academy Eagles baseball team won their third state title in their school history. Now getting to this point was not easy. From winning Game 1 to losing Game 2, to waiting until 10:30 p.m. just to play Game 3 and that game finished until 1 a.m. Sunday morning.

COLUMBUS — Michael Simmons’ big meet led Eastside to ninth place in the Class AAAAA Track and Field Championships. Simmons won the state championship Saturday in the 200-meter dash in 21.32 seconds — breaking the school record held by current NFL defensive back Eric Stokes — and took second in the 400 in 48.55, providing the bulk of his team’s 30 points in the final meet of his junior season. Teammate Jaden Dix finished sixth in the 400 (50.47).

ALBANY — On a beautiful spring day, my husband, Connell, and I had been to our grandkids’ Book Fair in Dawson. After we left, we decided to call our nephew, Chris, who lives in Shellman, to see if he would like to eat lunch. He had asked us before to come to Shellman for lunch at The Back Porch, but we had not been able to. He was not able to go since he had just had lunch at the Lions Club meeting.
