FORT SMITH, Ark — Update: Leal was found safe by police. Fort Smith Police are investigating a missing child who reportedly wandered from her home. Police are looking for 3-year-old Yaretzi Leal, who reportedly wandered off from her residence in the 3100 block of N 6th Street at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17.

Last weekend, the Acorn High School baseball team completed in the 2A West Regional Tournament at Mansfield. City to see possible 58% sewer rate increase if sales tax vote fails

The sales tax extensions, if passed, would collect money for the police and fire departments as well as parks and consent decree projects. The city will run out of money to pay for consent decree projects in late 2022 or early 2023 if people do not pass the tax extension. After that, the city would have no money to put toward consent decree projects, Director Lavon Morton said.

Police in Sallisaw fatally shoot knife-wielding man

SALLISAW, Okla. (AP) — The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the fatal shooting of a knife-wielding man by a police officer in Sallisaw. The OSBI said the officer was investigating a report of a man walking on U.S. 64 and jumping in front of traffic early Saturday in the eastern Oklahoma city near the Arkansas state line about 150 miles east of Oklahoma City. The OSBI says the man threatened the officer with a knife and the officer shot him when he refused to drop the weapon. The OSBI says the man was taken to a hospital where he died. No names were immediately released.
