Gov. Kay Ivey has awarded nearly $1.2 million to further assist five counties, including Barbour County, in continuing their recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. The awards to Barbour, Geneva, Bullock, Butler and Conecuh counties are part of more than $40 million allocated to Alabama under a special Community Development Block Grant program funded from the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act.

COVID cases force Alabama schools online as overall numbers dwindle

Though COVID cases are down statewide, a few hotspots remain -- and caused schools in Henry County to jump back to virtual learning and reschedule a high school graduation. Henry County is one of only a few counties with a “very high risk” designation on the state’s latest risk dashboard. Abbeville High School’s graduation was rescheduled and students there were virtual all week due to the coronavirus.
