Book Nook to reopen

After being closed since March 19, 2020, the Book Nook at the Troy Public Library will reopen at 9 a.m. on June 1. And, the Book Nook reopening will be a BOGO event. “When you buy a book, you will get a book of the same or lesser value free,” said Janice Johnson with Friends of the Library, a volunteer group that staffs the Book Nook at the Troy Public Library.

Two Enterprise residents have recently made an effort to encourage reading and increased access to books by creating Little Free Libraries. Little Free Library is a nonprofit that promotes reading and book sharing through the building of little libraries in communities, where users are encouraged to take books and also bring their own to share.

ESCC Fine Arts holding virtual spring showcase

Enterprise State Community College’s Fine Arts Spring Concert and Student Art Show will offer a showcase of the arts virtually. This annual ESCC event is traditionally held on campus in the Fine Arts building for visitors to see student talent and work from the spring semester. This year, the event will be offered virtually as a pre-recorded concert and art show that will be available online starting May 6 at 6 p.m. The event will be featured on ESCC’s Facebook and Youtube pages.

Elba student present Disney's Aladdin Jr. on stage

The Choral Department at Elba High School brought Disney’s Aladdin Jr. to life earlier this week with performance Monday and Tuesday. The students performed evening shows for the community Monday and Tuesday nights while another performance was held Tuesday afternoon for the Elba student-body. This has been a project over a year in the making for Elba High School’s Choral Department. The play originally was to be performed in 2020; however, COVID-19 put it on halt. Not to be stopped completely though, the students were determined to continue on this school year, and their hardwork paid off this week. Those attending the shows described the students’ performances with such words as - fantastic, amazing, unbelievable talent, outstanding, did not disappoint, and more! Jason Tucker directed the Elba students for this production.
