Decatur police: 15-year-old shot to death while playing with gun

Decatur police say a 15-year-old who died from a gunshot wound Tuesday had been playing with a loaded firearm along with other juveniles. The incident happened Tuesday night about 8:15 p.m. Officers were called to the 400 block of Pine Avenue S.W. in Decatur in reference to a shooting. There they found the 15-year-old, dead of a single, fatal gunshot wound.

Sentencing date set in Blakely case

A sentencing hearing has been set for later this month for former Limestone Sheriff Mike Blakely, records show. The hearing is set to take place 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 20. A presentence investigation will be conducted ahead of the hearing, according to an order issued Tuesday by Judge Pamela Baschab.
