Don H. Carter, 94, of Republic died June 14, 2022, from complications of congestive heart failure. Carter was raised in Halltown by his late parents, Art and Gertie Carter, alongside his twin brother Ron, and older brother Leo, both now deceased. After high school graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1945. He then joined his dad in farming in Halltown.

On the tenth day of October in the year of our Lord 1933, Lester McGuire and his wife, Edna (Decker) McGuire welcomed their only daughter to their home. She was welcomed by one older brother, Forest Lee. The new born lady was named Ora Joan McGuire (Ora, after an aunt) but she was soon to be called Joan or just Jo by her friends and relatives. Joan grew up in Dade County, Missouri and her early school years were spent at the Arcola school in Arcola, Missouri. That school was closed in 1950 and Joan finished her high school education in Lockwood, Missouri being a member of the Lockwood graduating class of 1951.
