WASHINGTON — The shooting occurred early Sunday at a private venue in South Tacoma, where a large crowd was gathering. A Texas trail ride, a barbecue in New York City and a stone bridge in Minneapolis were among the settings for at least 10 mass shootings that erupted across the country between Friday and late Sunday, marking the fifth consecutive weekend U.S. law enforcement officers have responded to multiple incidents, each involving four or more victims shot.

Whit’s Frozen Custard sets opening date for first Dayton area location

The first Dayton-area franchise of an Ohio-based business specializing in desserts is set to open later this week. Whit’s Frozen Custard business operator Jeffrey Neace said he plans to open the Ohio 48 site on the north end of Centerville’s Uptown district this Friday. That’s just before the July 3-4 Americana Festival.

A food truck specializing in fruity and creamy flavored gourmet popsicles is opening its first Ohio location in the Dayton area. Armando and Augustina DeLeon, franchisees of Frios Gourmet Pops, are introducing the gourmet popsicles to the community this weekend. Frios Gourmet Pops will be at the Kettering Cruise-In on Saturday starting at 4 p.m. The car show is located at the Kettering Towne Center, 2120 E. Dorothy Lane, across from Delco Park.

Hayner’s 2022 Lucky Lemonade Concert Series opens with The Hamiltons

TROY — The Troy-Hayner Cultural Center will host The Hamiltons at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, as part of their Lucky Lemonade summer concert series. The public is invited to come and sit awhile with Lonnie, Lawrence, Vance and Mike. This band was started over 50 years ago by Mom and Dad, Ronnie and Martha Hamilton. Lonnie and Lawrence began to join-in when they were just 11 and 12 and have continued the pursuit of this family tradition. Lonnie plays guitar, bass, fiddle, banjo and Lawrence plays guitar, bass and mandolin. On guitar and bass is Mike Powell who joined the group as a youngster. Vance Spellman joined the group a few years ago, and has also been playing the guitar since he was just a young kid.

New restaurant expected to open in former location of El Greco’s Pizza Villa

A new restaurant is expected to breathe new life into a building that previously housed a restaurant with a long-standing reputation in the Dayton community. Tina Casey, a Dayton native and pastor at House of Deliverance in Hamilton, submitted a conditional use application to the city of Trotwood to open D’oir’s Restaurant and Lounge at 3976 Salem Avenue where El Greco’s Pizza Villa was formerly located.
