Two restaurants fail inspections, one with critical violation: April 17-23

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — The Onondaga County Health Department released its inspection reports for restaurants checked during the week of April 17 to April 23, 2022. Two restaurants failed their inspections: The Market Diner at the Regional Market and the Taste of Africa on Danforth Street in Syracuse. The Market Diner failed with a critical violation.

Brooklyn Pickle has been a staple in Syracuse and surrounding counties for over 47 years. I have recently learned that founder and owner Ken Sniper has retired. I’m sure many of your customers are wondering where you have been. I personally would like to give Ken a big “thank you” for always greeting me — and I know many other customers — with a smile, a hug or a handshake. Karen Steen, professor, Fashion Studies and program director, Fashion Design at Cazenovia College, has been awarded the Ellen Swallow Richards Award for the Central New York Association of Family and Consumer Sciences Educations (CNYAFCSE). The Ellen Swallow Richards Award is given to honor the founder of Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS). The award is given to a non-FCS professional who has made an outstanding contribution and significant impact to the field of Family and Consumer Sciences education at the local and state level.

Planet Fitness Offering Free Summer Pass for High School Students

With schools closing for Summer vacation, it can be hard for kids to stay active. Planet Fitness is offering a free Summer pass at its locations for high school students to use their facilities. The pass is open to students aged 14-19. Those under 18 will need to register with a parent or guardian in person or online. Sign-ups begin May 16th and can be done here.

Anglers crush Otisco Lake walleye after dark

Pete Patnode of Onondaga Hill, and his fishing pal, John ‘Kid’ Corbett of Westvale, each caught their limit (3) of walleye on a recent night-fishing outing on Otisco Lake. The two retired Syracuse cops started casting stickbaits from Otisco’s eastern shoreline shortly after 8 p.m., using a Storm ThunderStick in pearl ghost flash pattern and a Rapala Shadowrap in purpledescent pattern. It was rainy and windy, but the men limited out in two hours.
