Men charged in drive-by shooting

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - Two men have been charged in connection with firing multiple shots at a housing community on June 14. Austin Bruce Jeffreys, 27, of Huntington, and Daniel Dale Coubert, 29, of Ashland were arrested Friday by members of the Huntington Violent Crime and Drug Task Force. Jeffreys has been charged with wanton endangerment and Coubert has been charged with conspiracy.

Sheriff Rick Thompson stated that two fugitives were arrested tonight (June 17). The Wayne County Sheriff Drug Enforcement Unit, Road Patrol Deputies, and the WV State Police were executing warrants in the Crum area when they encountered Luke Dingess who was wanted for absconding Parole more than a year ago. Luke fled on foot and when Deputies attempted to subdue him they, along with Luke, fell over an embankment. Luke was on Parole after a drug conviction by the Wayne County Sheriff Drug Enforcement Unit. In addition Luke is charged with Felony Possession of Methamphetamine, fleeing on foot, battery on a police officer, and obstructing.

Huntington police looking for witnesses of June 13 attack

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Detectives with the Huntington Police Department are looking for people who witnessed an attack last week. According to detectives, a large group of males attacked three juveniles around 2 a.m. on June 13 in the 200 block of 10th Street. One of the victims has life-threatening injuries and remains hospitalized.

Dozens of emaciated beagles rescued from Lawrence Co. Ohio property

IRONTON, Ohio (WSAZ) -- Sixty-seven beagles were rescued Friday from a property in Lawrence County. That’s according to the Friends of Lawrence County Rescue. The organization tells WSAZ that the property is in Ironton. Pitiful Paws Rescue and BREW are also assisting with the rescue and caring for the animals.

Michigan man in custody, charged with arson at Meigs Motel

POMEROY, Ohio – One man is in custody after reportedly setting a fire at the Meigs Motel. According to Meigs County Sheriff Keith Wood, on Thursday, June 17, 2021 Deputies with his office responded to the Meigs Motel at 34100 Laurel Woods Road after the Pomeroy Fire Department was dispatched to a possible fire inside of a motel room. Deputies arrived on scene and spoke with members of the Pomeroy Fire Department and Meigs Motel staff and discovered that a fire had broke out in one of the motel rooms causing severe fire damage. The subject staying in the room was identified as Chad Miller-Wiemuth, 29, of Michigan. Deputies were informed that Miller-Wiemuth had fled the scene on foot prior to their arrival. Further information was received regarding the fire and the scene was being treated as an arson at that time.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — The Huntington Area Convention & Visitors Bureau welcomed The American Duchess to Huntington on Thursday. The Duchess is a sister ship to The American Queen that has made several stops in Huntington over recent years. Both ships had planned visits in 2020 that were canceled due to COVID-19. The American Duchess can carry up to 166 guests through America’s heartland. The paddle wheeler, created from a 1995 hull, was completely reconstructed and features single-seating main dining and entertainment venues.
