‘The county is at a crossroads’

Due to what the county sees as limitations in its ability to grow and benefit from its tax base, the Sutter County Board of Supervisors will decide during Tuesday’s upcoming meeting if voters should approve a one cent “retail” sales tax increase to help avoid possible cuts to county services, such as those that fall within the realm of public safety.

Court sides with environmentalists over water quality

On Thursday, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals overruled the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission accusations that the California Water Resources Control Board waived its authority to ensure that hydroelectric projects uphold state water standards. This motion establishes clean water protection for the Yuba, Bear, and Merced River Watersheds for the next 40 years.

Summer party today at Sutter County Library

The Sutter County Library will be hosting an End of Summer Party today at its main branch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Yuba City. Chalese Eggleston, the library’s children’s services coordinator, said she expects to have a large crowd and will be utilizing the facility’s parking lot to set up messy art projects, games, and other activities that are not suitable for indoors.
