Kingsport declines to help fund Boone Lake skimmer boat

KINGSPORT — The Model City will not kick in $31,250 toward the purchase of a skimmer boat for the Boone Lake Association. The BLA came before the Board of Mayor and Aldermen in March asking for the money to buy the vessel — a boat that would be used year round to help keep the Holston River side of Boone Lake clear of debris.

Thunder Over 160, hosted by Backroads of Appalachia at the Dragon Slayer Welcome Center over the weekend, had a turnout of roughly 45 motorcycle enthusiasts and nearly 40 vintage rat rods from all across the east coast. The Combat Vets Association and Soldiers for Jesus were also in attendance as locals and visitors enjoyed free hot dogs and drinks. Johnny Pop Day, a veteran and performing artist, moved those in attendance with a strong voice and captivating guitar performance. Most claims against Kingsport deal with vehicle accidents

KINGSPORT — Kingsport resolved just over $100,000 in insurance claims against the city in 2020, with most of the matters dealing with vehicle accidents. Data shows 61 insurance claims were resolved by the Model City last year, with the payouts totaling $103,683, according to information obtained by the Times News through a public information request.

Wheelwright woman killed in Sunday collision Four vehicles involved in crash on KY 192

A multi-vehicle crash along KY 192 in front of Dairy Queen on Sunday afternoon injured several and took the life of a Wheelwright, KY woman. According to the press release from the London City Police, the crash took place around 2:02 p.m. when a westbound 2006 Jeep Cherokee driven by Jonathan Campbell, 42, of Corbin, struck a 2007 Ford Focus driven by 36-year-old Russell Estes of Corbin.
