Eastpoint man involved in crash near Fountain

A 60-year-old Eastpoint man, driving a pickup truck just south of Fountain in Bay County, struck a motorcycle Friday morning, leaving the cyclist with critical injuries. According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the Eastpoint man was behind the wheel of a silver pick-up, just before 11 a.m., heading north on U.S. 23 and preparing to make a left turn near State Route 20.

District softball tourney welcomes summer heat

It was as nice a sky, and as brutal a heat, as can be imagined in north Florida in mid-June, but the girls and young women were up for playing ball. At last weekend’s Dixie Youth Softball tournament, held at Will Kendrick Park and Sports Center just east of Carrabelle, teams from Franklin County, Port St. Joe, Wewahitchka, Marianna, Cottondale, Sneads and Blountstown battled it out to see who were the bosses of the basepaths, the premiers of the plate and the foremens of the field.
