Community pays respect to fallen deputy killed in Floyd County shooting

FLOYD COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - Visitation was held for Floyd County Sheriff’s Deputy William Petry on Sunday evening at Nelson Fraizer Funeral Home in Martin, Ky. Deputy Petry died in an officer-involved shooting in the Allen community on Thursday, and hundreds of folks came out to pay their respects, from community members, to fellow first responders from across the state.

Funeral arrangements announced for fallen officers

FLOYD COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - Funeral arrangements were announced on Saturday for the three officers killed during Thursday’s shooting in Floyd County. Visitation for Floyd County Sheriff’s Deputy and Martin Fire Department Fire Chief William Petry will be Sunday, July 3, at 6 p.m. at Nelson Frazier Funeral Home in Martin, Kentucky. The visitation will continue all day on Monday, July 4.

(KFVS) - A 3-on-3 basketball tournament was held in Jackson in an effort to preserve the Jackson City State Park basketball courts. “It started a few months ago,” said Josh Lukefahr, the tournament organizer. “I wanted to do a project, a GoFundMe page, to rehab the courts. It needs new surfaces. It news new goals and rims and things, so my goal was to raise money for the City of Jackson specifically for the basketball courts so we can have a nice place for kids to play like I did. I grew up here playing.”

HAZARD — In preparation for the upcoming SOAR Summit to be held later this year, Hazard hosted a SOAR Focus Summit, presented by Kentucky Power and Kentucky Innovation, on June 23-24. During the SOAR Focus Summit, the City of Hazard hosted more than 300 professionals from across the region to learn about innovation and entrepreneurship. The conference largely took place at Hazard Community and Technical College, but an opening reception was held in downtown Hazard on June 23, allowing participants to see the growth of businesses located downtown.
